This is the first page of writing in the story, and I honestly just like all the jack-o-lanterns with their faces. Especially the wooden ones hanging from the tree. As a child, I always looked forward to Halloween, trick-or-treating, and costumes with great anticipation.
“A robot, a robot, I could trick-or-treat, as an evil robot.”
I really enjoy the illustrations of this spread for a couple of different reasons. First, the homemade robot costume looks as authentic as homemade robot costumes get. Second, as the boy imagines himself as a giant evil robot on the opposite page, it reminds me of one of my favorite childhood TV shows, “Ultraman” which is so obscure I will not bother to mention more. Lastly, Elena’s rendition of the dog riding a Roomba vacuum with a red cape to save the world makes me smile every time I see it.
